CA-7 Scheduling Training
Who's it for?
Anybody who needs a good understanding of how batch work is defined and maintained
on the CA-7 database.
This could be a new job schedules or senior Ops involved in overnight problem analysis.
Even auditors checking up of CA-7 security!
What do I expect!
Please don't come on the course if you haven't ever seen jobs running through CA-7.
We don't go into basics on this course, that's why we have a basic course!
What does it cover.
- Defining Jobs
There is a lot more to defining new jobs than you many think define!
Here we go through everything including the default job, all the
LJOB parameters, batch terminal syntax etc.
- Setting up Job and dataset triggers
Triggers can be very straight forward, but when schedule IDs,
trigger IDs and all the time parameters are included it gets more involved.
- Setting up Job Schedules and Calendars.
We could spend the whole course talking about Job Schedule screen options.
Would you be able to schedule a job 3 working days before the last Wednesday of the month,
but only if the month didn't end on a Friday! By the end of the course you could do it,
whether you needed to or not!
- Dataset facilities and problems
CA-7 monitors all dataset activity and can make some very strange decisions on the information
it receives. We go through what is happening and why.
- External Communication
The batch terminal can be used to solve so many different types of problems.
We go through some of these giving you a taste of what can be done.
Material
All students receive a 120 page full colour course handout and a quick reference card
and 6 reference charts.
Duration
Normally this on-site course is 2 days.
