An Introduction to writing CGI's in Perl
Kyla Computing has now a 3 day Perl CGI training course.
It has been designed for anybody who
is wants to be move involved in server side web development.
Perl is the normal language for creating page counters,
guest books and processing web site forms and as such, is the interface betwen your site and
your applications.
Objectives
* After the course a student should be able to
understand standard perl syntax and coding rules.
* S/he will understand how to build CGI programs to interface with web pages
* The course includes principles of good web site design and
professional Perl coding standards.
Prerequisites
* An understanding of standard HTML tags
will be of benefit to a student.
* A student does not need any previous experience
of Perl or JavaScript.

The course contains details on the following area:
Perl: -
- Basic script syntax
- Standard Numeric Operations and function
- Variable types, properties and methods
- Decision processing syntax and facilities
- String pattern matching
- Loop features
- user subroutines/functions
CGI
- Returning HTML to a User
- Processing HTML forms
- Sending e-mails
- Reading and writing server files
- Manipulating server directories
- Invoking CGIs for page counts
